TREATMENT OF NOCTURNAL PANIC
Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) is found to be effective in the treatment of nocturnal panic.

IMPACT OF SUBSTANCE USE DISORDERS ON THE OUTCOME OF PSYCHOSIS TREATMENT
For patients with first-episode psychosis who have a substance use disorder, cessation or decrease of substance use during treatment for the psychosis is found to be associated with a greater likelihood of remission of positive psychotic symptoms.

DEPRESSION AMONG THE VERY OLD
Among those who are 85 to 89 years of age, depression is found to be common and persistent.

COURSE OF TOURETTE’S SYNDROME
In children with Tourette’s syndrome, tics are usually found to diminish in severity during adolescence/early adulthood. Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) symptoms often accompany Tourette’s syndrome symptoms and are found to peak in severity at a later age than that at which the highest severity of tics occurs.

In the Pipeline: Approvable: Emsam (selegiline transdermal system) Proposed Indication: treatment of major depressive disorder.

In the Pipeline: Approvable: Sparlon (modafinil) tablets. Proposed Indication: treatment of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children and adolescents (ages 6 to 17).

Approval (new indication): Effexor XR Extended-Release Capsules (venlafaxine hydrochloride). New Indication: treatment of panic disorder, with or without agoraphobia.

TREATMENT OF OPIOID DEPENDENCE AMONG ADOLESCENTS
Combining buprenorphine with behavioral intervention is found to be beneficial in the treatment of opioid-dependent adolescents.
