PSYCHOTROPIC DRUG COMPARISON STUDY
TARDIVE DYSKINESIA IN PATIENTS RECEIVING ATYPICAL VS CONVENTIONAL ANTIPSYCHOTICS
In routine clinical practice, patients with schizophrenia who receive atypical (ie, second generation) antipsychotic medication are found to have a lower incidence and persistence of tardive dyskinesia after 6 months, compared to patients receiving conventional (ie, first generation) antipsychotics.

Product Safety Information: In the labeling of Paxil and other paroxetine drugs, warnings that were added in Sept 2005 are being strengthened concerning an increased risk of major congenital malformations associated with paroxetine taken during the first trimester of pregnancy.

Approval (new indication): Depakote ER (divalproex sodium) Extended Release Tablets. New Indication: treatment of acute manic or mixed episodes associated with bipolar disorder, with or without psychotic features

Approval (new device): InstaRead Lithium System. Indication: measurement of lithium blood levels at point-of-treatment (eg, in office, clinic, or hospital)
