Among people arrested for driving while impaired (DWI), the prevalence of alcohol and drug use disorders as well as other psychiatric disorders is found to be high.

POSTTRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER / ANXIETY
Motor vehicle accidents are found to be associated with various and persistent anxiety disturbances.

PSYCHOLOGICAL HEALTH
Brief periods of aerobic exercise are found to improve psychological health.

BIPOLAR DISORDER
A research review finds lamotrigine (Lamictal) to be effective in the treatment of bipolar disorder.

CHRONIC FATIGUE SYNDROME
A review of studies on the treatment of chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) finds mixed results, with the most promising interventions being cognitive-behavioral therapy and graded exercise therapy.

Formal education about adverse drug reactions and interactions is often lacking in internal medicine clerkships.

PSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY NOTE
Serotonin reuptake inhibition by antidepressants is found to be associated with increased risk of upper gastrointestinal bleeding in elderly patients with previous gastrointestinal bleeding, and in very elderly patients in general.

The use of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) may lower the risk of myocardial infarction (MI).
