DEMENTIA
In a research review, the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease in cases with a family history of the disease is discussed.

ANXIETY
Virtual reality exposure therapy is found to be effective in the treatment of fear of flying.

DEPRESSION
Estrogen replacement is found to be effective in the treatment of perimenopausal depression.

ALCOHOL USE DISORDERS
Data on patients with acute alcohol intoxication admitted to emergency services indicate that, contrary to common practice, such patients should be evaluated for alcohol abuse or dependence and given appropriate referrals.

EATING DISORDERS
In the treatment of adolescents with anorexia nervosa, separated family therapy is found to be more effective than conjoint family therapy in families where there is a high level of parental criticism toward the adolescent.

PSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY NOTE
A preliminary study indicates that olanzapine (Zyprexa) and fluoxetine (Prozac) can be combined to effectively treat treatment-resistant depression.
