QUICK REFERENCE #16: How can the National Network of Tobacco Cessation Quitlines be accessed?
The National Network of Tobacco Cessation Quitlines can be accessed via a single toll-free number. This is an initiative of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). "Callers are automatically routed to a state-run quitline, if one exists in their area. If there is no state-run quitline, callers are routed to the National Cancer Institute (NCI) quitline." The quitlines offer callers:
(a) help with quitting smoking
(b) informational materials that can be mailed to the caller
(c) referrals to other resources
The National Network of Tobacco Cessation Quitlines can be accessed at 800-784-8669 (800-QUITNOW).
The National Cancer Institute (NCI) Smoking Quitline can be accessed at 877-448-7848 (877-44U-QUIT).
Additional information about quitlines and about other resources designed to help people quit cigarette smoking is available online at http://www.smokefree.gov.
