NESARC data are derived from face-to-face interviews of 43,093 adult respondents in the United States. Diagnoses are based, primarily, on meeting criteria from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 4th Edition (DSM-IV) at any time during the 12 months prior to the survey.
