QUICK REFERENCE #49: What are some of the findings of the National Sleep Foundation's 2007 “Sleep in America” poll?

The following findings are based on the 2007 “Sleep in America” poll, which is a National Sleep Foundation survey of women, aged 18-64.

• Only 39% of women reported getting a good night’s sleep most or all nights.

• 67% of women experienced a sleep problem at least a few nights per week.

• 22% of women felt that daytime sleepiness interfered with their daily activities at least a few days per week.

• 29% of women used a sleep aid at least a few nights per week.

• Women’s bedtime on workdays was, on average, 11:02 pm. Bedtime on nonworkdays was 11:42 pm. [Women aged 18 to 24 averaged later bedtimes than those who were older (workdays: 11:57 pm vs 10:44–11:00 pm; nonworkdays: 1:11 am vs 11:15–11:44 pm).]
